The switch and its cam don't need lubrication, although at least outside the dry country I think the assembly could use better weather protection - for the adjusting cam and mounting plate mostly. Someone else knows more about the shaft than I do (no, I'm not going there). But undoubtedly some of the oil that comes up from the crankcase will work down into the lower one, unless it's kept out by grease.
