I think there has been discussion of this before, but I can't resurrect it from the archives. The owner's book for my '91 VW Vanagon GL Campmobile with 2.1 waterboxer engine says to use ATF Dexron in the power steering system. Well, that stuff is not available any more. There are products labeled "Dexron," but they all have appended terminology. Most say nothing about being back compatible. I did find a product from Valvoline labeled DEX/MERC Automatic Transmission Fluid. It does say that it "Exceeds performance requirements of ..... all previous Dexron standards and ................ ." Is this ok to use in my bus's (term used on purpose, it is what I call the van out of historical consideration) power steering system? Thanks, mcneely |
