BWAHAHAHAHAHA...I've seriously recommended that people totally remove
those senders before washing out the inside of the tank.  Back in the
day I fixed four or so of them, just posted a link to photos of the
last one.  That was a good deal more elaborate than the others.

Nice.  If you want to get elegant you might try drilling a little
hole top and bottom and blowing it like an egg, then sealing it all
up.  But lucky you, the leak is probably on the inner seam, hard to reach.
