A favorite of mine:  http://azstateparks.com/Parks/RIIS/facilities.html

Private beach right on the river, a little protected cove.  Boat ramp.  Sites are $23/night, includes hot showers and electricity.  Town of Parker is 10 miles away for supplies.  The VANAGON bonus of this place is that there are 6 or 8 primo sites closest to the river with a nice grassy park....great for lounging....and, they're too small for RV's but perfect for Vanagons.  Daytime highs in March are generally in the 70's and 80's, nighttime lows in the 50's.  Perfect.  A cafe to walk to for breakfast or dinner about a mile up the road.  Busses by the Bridge at Lake Havasu is about 1 hour north along the Colorado River; so if you go to that in January, you could check out River Island State Park.  There are 2 other campgrounds within 2 miles of this one, but this one is the best.

On the California side of the river is a little campground called Crossroads.  Very nice, very basic, vault toilets, $6 a night, right on the river.  Another gem of a place.

Yeah...you could easily hang out in the Parker Strip area for a couple weeks and thaw out....plenty of little side trips like Laughlin, Oatman, Quartzite, Havasu to keep you entertained.  Do a little Googling.

Mrs Squirrel tires of the long cold winters in Central Oregon.

"Next year we will take a two week camping trip to the south, where it's warmer," she declared.

She's thinking of deserty, sunny places. I envision camping in the sun, near a stream, surrounded by cottonwood trees and sandstone hills. The nearest neighbor a quarter-mile away.

Where would you go to spend a few days in the southwest?
