Also known affectionately known as the "pushmi-pullyu" (of Dr. Dolittle fame - pronounced push-me-pull-you) but in this case the aeronautical variety.

Center-line thrust was supposed to make them more easy to fly than conventional configured aircraft with their asymmetrical thrust should an engine fail. That rear engine was miserable to work on.
