If your throttle body isn't worn out the Bentley procedure works just fine. If the throttle body *is* worn and after using the Bentley method it doesn't close with the engine running, clip an LED test light - *not* an incandescent - or less desirably a voltmeter into the white lead on the harness connector. Run the engine and set the switch so that it reliably closes (light goes out) when you *slowly* let the throttle close. Slamming it shut doesn't count. Alternatively unplug the harness connector and use a continuity checker on the switch plug contacts, looking for continuity when you slowly let the throttle close.

But if you have to do it that way, it means the setting can't possibly be exactly correct, it's jut the best you can manage. The procedure for the one-switch throttle body is on page 24.59, and the spec is that the switch should not close with a .005 feeler under the idle stop, and it must close with a .0015 feeler. Or as they say it, it should close between .002 and .004 inches from the idle stop. Again, only slowly counts.

Yrs, David
