John..The TBD LSD's (Peloquins brand) works in both types..Auto and manual, but are different units since the trannies are totally different internally. The term LSD is a generic one for limited slip diff and the TBD is a diff style (without clutch plates internally). Hope that makes more sense. And Peloquins is the only manufacturer of them to fit our vanagons.
