I have tried using the handbrake technique on both my vans in the past with
very limited success.  The Vanagon with its forward weight bias sucks in
slippery conditions.

I have been running a Peloquin limited slip in my 5 speed for just about a
year now and its fantastic!  Completely invisible on dry pavement, it will
charge up a slope with 8" of heavy wet snow like it wasn't there.  The tires
were 225/55-16 Conti WinterExtremes.

I'm not going out of my way looking for mucky places to challenge Dixie but
I'm no longer afraid of wet grass and a slight incline...
