Subject: Picking an alternator.
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

I just started looking into Alternators to replace my current Bosch, which has been adapted for dual batteries etc... While looking at Napa, Autozone, O'Reilly's etc, I am offered 65 and 90 Amp alternators. The 65 Amp alternators are more expensive than higher output ones... any insight? I'm assuming a high output on account of my 500W stereo amp (which I hardly ever dare use while near remote areas due to my current problematic alternator,) my off road lights and camper interior... as well as auxiliary battery. So then I stumbled across some high output alternator companies... Anyone ever gone that route?

With the current output, I don't dare run anything at all. It even stalls at idle speed.... which is another question... does anyone have their van set to 800 +/- 50 rpm as set out in the Bentley? I was running at 1000, but then changed it to 850 after finding it in my Bentley.

Still suffering on the hills here in New Mexico... I've noticed an 'old school' ticking sound in 4th gear when I'm making an incline of any sort. Its not in the lower gears, just in 4th... what is that all about? Changing the oil today to 15W40... might even find some Royal Purple around here.

Robby 87 Syncro camper.
