I've used a few different ones too:

I had OEM Boge on the front and Alko's on the back for five years. The front end was a bit soft and eventually got really soft, but the Alko's did a great job.

One of the Alko's developed a leak last summer and wouldn't rebound. Bus Depot said that there was no warranty, so I did what I had to and replaced them with NOS Gabriel Red Riders that I got from Ebay for 99 cents (plus $8 shipping.)

They are very firm. Very, very, very, very firm. But with a full load, they actually ride fairly well.

I have Bilstein HD's on the front now and love them. I'm not driving the hell out of them, but they seem to do everything well compared to the Boge's. Not too soft, not too firm. I'm planning on replacing the rear Gabriels with Bilsteins as soon as the budget allows.
