Thanks for the tips. See also below a message from Paul Mayfield
from 2002 about the same rack. Armed with this info, I have
discovered that the "hoop" comes off of the posts, which could stay
on the bumper. The one I got only has 2 of the hooks that grab the
bumper. Looks and sounds like maybe it should have 4 so it can grab
both the top and bottom of the bumper. Mine also came with the
remnants of the strap with rubber coated hook that could be used to
span across the front of the van from the front door openings and
help support the top of the rack. It looks like this setup might
block my headlights, which I couldn't really tolerate. It could go
on the back, but I've already got one of those. I like the idea of
the front so that there is better access to the rear hatch and engine
and less obscuration of the tail lights.
