Mr. Squirrel, If the jack needs protection, just do what you would do with anything else up there that needs protection -- stuff it in a bag. So far as securing it in place, nothing beats old fashioned line, like sailor's use. I tie everything in place that I put up there, with poly lines. Nice tie down points in the luggage rack. mcneely
