I have about 10 of those black "trucker" tarp bungees in my van that I use to secure stuff. They seem almost impervious to sunlight and being elastic, they will hold loads or equipment even after the van rocks around for days or weeks. I carry a High Lift jack on the front bike rack of my pickup....using three of those bungees and even after a few years, they are still OK...Though I do inspect the lashings of stuff anyhow.

In my van, I string those where normal westie curtains would go. I end up with two or three across the header of every window. I hang my damp bike gear on them after a ride or put a roll of paper towels up there or lots of other handy uses. When I need one or two for lashing something inside or out, they are right there. Various lengths are handy and you can double them, end to end if need be.

I also have a little stuff sack with various pieces of line and assorted rack straps in my 'parts bin'. Those are handy and can be combined with the Big Bad Black Bungees..
