That's a good idea. What do you think, just some standard motor oil squirted in each cylinder, or would something like marvel mystery oil be preferred? You comment on the fuel brought something to mind as well. If there is any fuel in the tank that did not evaporate it is at least 5 years old now. How should I deal with that I wonder?

I'd pop out the plugs, (disconnect hi tension wire at coil!) squirt a little oil in each cylinder, make sure it turns by "hand" via front pulley nut, then spin for a bit with starter. I wonder if squirting some oil on the rockers is worth doing before turning or starting the engine?

I know the fuel pump isn't on when cranking the engine, but assuming the FI's spray during that time.....

Minor detail, but if it were me, I'd be tempted to keep fuel from wetting cylinder walls etc. until parts are lubed.

Maybe disconnect FI's while plugs are out?

Hopefully wiser minds than mine will chime in on my speculations.

Neil.

It has been several years since I lurked on the list and unfortunately it has also been several years since I cranked my van. It has been sheltered since 2006 and nothing special was done to it when it went in the shelter. It has simply been sitting. To quote a Doc Watson tune, "life gets tedious sometimes". So.... Other than the obvious battery charge/replace, what would you folks advise I do to the thing before I try to crank it, if anything? It is an 82 aircooled, stock, no engine mods.
