( I get it now Neil.. you have manual steering now anyway ...was thinking you needed a PS rack somehow ) regarding your comment ....

hey I have a totally rust free 86 GL. more than 5,000 miles on it though. .. and friend of mine wants it eventually ...if he ever gets the moola.

and ... speaking of rust free.. and a manual steering van ..... I have ( I'm selling for the owner ) a white, dent and ding-free, very non-rusted 83 wateboxer Westy for sale. i'm working on an add for thesamba. current asking price is only $ 3,295 .. as it needs a few things to bring it up to being a 6,000 dollar 83 Westy ..

the good stuff .. no dents, no rust. nice white color. ALL the Westy stuff is there, and looks unused. Has both tables and legs.. the stainless drainboard in the stove lid still has the original protective plastic cover on it .. so very virgin in the camper stuff department. Excellent tent on the poptop. new front LT tires .. new strong battery

has good compression but I know both heads should come off for a valve job and new headgaskets. needs a t-stat , runs a little cool. the other main things needing attention .. right front shock is disconnnected at the top of it. passenger's seat needs to be bolted back down properly ..the lock nuts are in the van .. it's a 15 minute repair. and the other significant thing is front heater fan currently not working ..don't know if it's the switch, the fan, or what. Same is true for the rear heater ....but I like to remove those anyway.

and it has ...pretty rare in an 83 waterboxer Westy ........ front in-dash Behr AC. located southern oregon. for sale now, as is ....or gone through.

at the $ 3,295 price level...... it's a perfect 'runs now you can drive it home' project westy for the home hobbiest vanagon person.
