I'll re-check. I went through a massive tuneup/inspection/try-this-try-that back in 2008 to find out why my highway mileage was about 14 mpg. Tested and adjusted everything, pestered the list a lot. Turned out to be the ECU. Swapping it with another yielded my present 18-21 mpg highway. Well, sometimes as low as 17 mpg, depending on conditions. But usually better. And that has been holding, so I don't think there is something "seriously wrong" here.

But I'm going on a trip up to Clatsop, Ore., later this month, a round trip of 500 miles, mainly highway so I'll re-check that. Another in-town fillup will tell me whether I am indeed getting 12 mpg in town, or made an error when I did the last tank. Like maybe we've been running ethanol-diluted gasoline at the pumps right now during winter and I wasn't paying attention. There's a station on highway 97 in town that advertises ethanol-free premium. I know I don't need premium but having undiluted gasoline would probably make a bit of a difference.

So many factors, so few brains.
