Subject: Sealing Windshield?... [Was: thank you vanagon community!]
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Does anyone have experience with re-sealing the windshield leaks without the R&R of the windshield? I've heard suggestions to squeeze some clear silcone sealer between the windshield and the rubber seal at the bottom. I think it would require a couple of narrow things (soft like wood, i.e. chopsticks, not screwdrivers) to lift the rubber seal a bit, squeeze in the sealant, press it down, let it dry, and then trim away any excess (perhaps with a razor blade). Would that seal any gaps and keep the water away from any potential rust holes?

Any comments? Would that be a waste of time?

Also, same question for the top portion of the seal, same deal, lift it up etc., but of course be real careful because this time the surface is paint. Does the seal ever form leaks at the top also, or just the bottom?

Thanks! Roland
