I'm sure it will work, but just for ref. sake, it is a flat ring. I know because when I went to the dealer to get one, holding the old one in my hand, the counter clerk said it was an O-ring, but when he got the replacement it was indeed a flat ring.

Part of the boring Vanagon trivia we enjoy, but makes other folk shake their heads :)
