I was just at my VW dealer and they had a gallon bottle of VW-Audi anti-frz
coolant ..
for $ 22.5o ( my cost ..not sure if that's for someone off the street )
..and they swear it mixes with VW Blue..and with the VW Red that came after
the blue stuff..
They just could not not have a replacement for the blue stuff ..
I'm sure this new orange or whatever they call it will be around for quite a
while.
the blue stuff is a bother though.
can't get it 'just anywhere' ..and ...one local foreign parts store sells it
for 15 bucks for a liter and a half ..
which is like 30 bucks a gallon .....too spendy.
I installed a tencentlife 'better 2.2 waterboxer engine' ( highly
recommended, btw ) and he recommends Dexcool .
and I have switched some of my keeper vanagons over to that Dexcool orange
juice..
and you can buy that just about anywhere., and I believe it is very good
stuff.
there is also 'mixes with anything' anti-frz you can buy at a FLAPS .
with that much effort on the getting blue for yourself..
I'd be tempted to use it. I don't beieve it's acually 'better' myself
though.
I have run countless vanagons on conventional green a-frz at 50/50 with
water.
I add some machinist's cutting oil......a water soluble oil that's a great
rust inhibitor and water pump lubricant..
been doing that about 20 years on hundreds of cars and really believe in it.
No corrosion ever.
besides...
blue is avaialable in the Pentosin brand..
your tech is incorrect that it's not available anymore.
And VW's new juice mixes with the old blue ....according to my VW dealer
parts department .
so if you invested in that blue juice..
get your money back out of it by using it or selling it .
I'd probably use it since I had it already myself.
