Here's my oil cooler/gauge setup.
I'm running a dual-pole sender. Because the sender's low pressure side
cutoff is higher than stock I elected to go with a splitter and the factory
.3 bar switch. The splitter is a solid brass piece and the factory sender
screws directly into it. No leaks, safe, and puts thins out in reach for me
where I can replace it easily if needed.
The oil temp sender replaces oil drain plug.
My gauges are from an 80's Audi - a free bee. The entire gauge pod fits
neatly in the radio opening. My Westy's radio was gone when I bought it, so
no problem.
I'm using a Mocal cooler with a Mocal sandwich plate adapter and stainless
braided hoses (see batinc.net). I elected to not follow Tencentlife's setup
as I did not want my engine sucking hot air from the cooler during low
speeds. I placed my cooler on the opposite side after relocating the ECU in
my '84 Westy. I made a small spoiler from perspex that is mounted at the
aft lip of the left pillar air intake to create a higher pressure zone just
over the intake and help airflow. Two high-CFM fans help during low speeds.
Best of all, I didn't cut any precious metal during installation. I only
had to tap a few small holes to mount the cooler at the correct angle.
