I have an agreed value policy for my 86 Syncro Westy for $35,000. Can drive 6000 mi/yr and has to be garaged and costs me $407/yr. Sky Smith Insurance in Iowa and the carrier is American Modern Ins CO. Might wanna give Sky a call and see what he says. After I got mine insured, I told Bob Stevens and he talked to them and was told they might have reconsidered what a Westy is and things may have changed. Worth a call to see if it all fits for your needs rather than stress over the possibility of losing your shirt after a disaster... I have USAA insurance, which is a screaming deal for those of us who can get it. For things like classic cars & motor homes, they partner with another insurance company (I can't recall who). I called to see if I could get my full westy insured as a motor home & after about 1/2 an hour trying to explain what a westy is & sending them to Gowesty to look at photos & costs, they said it sure looks like a mini motor home, but had one sticking point - "Does it have a bathroom?" Well, no, but what if I have a porta potty in there? "No. It has to be factory installed".

So the short answer was it doesn't qualify as a motor home, it would go in the same classification as a pick up with a camper shell, which is not a motor home. Bummer. They said that based on the prices at Gowesty, I should switch to classic car insurance with an agreed value policy. It's not my daily driver at this point, but I do drive it too much to qualify for the 2500k miles or less limit per year on most classic car policies, but then again, the odometer doesn't work........

Well, I think finding the right insurance company in the right state & not driving it as a daily driver could add up to a good savings on a motor home policy. Good luck to those who can find the right combination. Cheers, David K PDX

>>> Dear Mr. Knoll, Per our earlier conversation, Bodycraft Collision Center is not comfortable completing the repairs to your vehicle and have stated that there may be further damage to the undercarriage that is not written on the current estimate. Any further damage or labor will result in your vehicle being deemed a total loss. We want to resolve this as amicably as possible in accordance with your personal automobile policy. Please refer to your California Personal Automobile Policy, Form 8550, Page 19 of 27, Part D - Coverage For Damage To Your Auto: LIMIT OF LIABILITY A. Our limit of liability for loss will be the lesser of the: 1. Actual cash value of the stoler or damaged property; or 2. Amount necessary to repair or replace the property with other property of like kind and quality.

At this time, we would consider two options to resolve this claim: 1. The vehicle would be deemed a total loss and we would issue payment to you according to the owner retain salvage settlement figures below: Total Loss Calculations for CALIFORNIA - Owner Retains ACV: (+) $1,117.00 Sales Tax: (+) $97.74 UPD: (-) $26.79 Sub Total: $1,187.95 Total Fees: (+) $18.00 Salvage: (-) $0.00 Deductible: (-) $250.00 Net Total: $955.95

2. If you did not want the vehicle to be totaled, we would issue payment to you in the amount of $937.95. This payment was derived by taking the actual cash value above ($1117.00) plus taxes ($97.74) less the unrelated prior damage @ 10% ($26.79) and less your deductible ($250.00). This payment will be considered a full and final settlement payment. As Bodycraft Collision Center will not complete the repairs, we would pay for a reasonable tow to another repair facility or back to your residence.

After you have had time to review this information, please call me at the number below.
