Not just hair or getting sucked in. Just being over the rotating assembly
can be dangerous. Way back when, I worked at a shop in Leucadia called
Harvey's Automotive. The head mechanic was finishing up work on a Datsun
(showing my age now). He was standing next to car, revving the engine to
make sure is was running smooth when the cooling fan blade came apart.
Missed his eye by 1/2". I took thirteen stitches to close up the gash.
Obviously, we don't have cooling fans connected to our crankshafts, but I've
seen belts come apart that could do some damage. Personally, I always try
to avoid being "in-line" with the exposed rotating assembly. I've seen what
can happen...
Cheers,
Jeff

not only hands and fingers..
long hair is extremely dangerous around any moving equipment.
and so is any jewelry of any kind........and not just for getting caught in
things..
but for electrical shorting out, like a wedding ring and battery cables etc.
I hate to think about the person maybe leaning in to get a closer look at a
spinning part on a lathe and long hair getting caught.
as this case shows....stuff like that can just kill ya...
or change your whole life in a second. There is just 'zero margin' when it
comes to body parts and moving or electrically energized equipment.
