This dimwitted moose agrees!!. But there are
dozens of used VDO electric Oil pressure gauges
on ebay and likely in your local junkyard. The
old 80's model Audis had them in there and some
had 2-3gauge plastic panels for temp and voltage
too. Golfs, Sirroccos, Jettas. Most of the VDO
sending units for temp and pressure have markings
on them like "150C or 0-19BAR to make sure you
have the right sending unit for your gauge
range. Worst case, you'd have to buy a new sending unit.
On my old Bay window bus, I rigged up an oil
pressure switch from a Chevy Vega. It had 3
prongs on it. One for the sending unit and the
other two ran through the ignition coil. If the
pressure ever dropped below like 10psi, the
switch would kill the engine. It worked too, as
when I would have fresh oil from an oil change,
the starter would roll and roll until the needle
got above 10psi and then the engine would start right up.
Maybe other cars use this too, but at the time
back in the 80's the Vega part was easy to find.
