that's why I never ever *touch* any old air-cooled Bus ..
they suck to work on, working on your knees, ducking under the engine door ..
etc.
On a vanagon ..they 'did it right' ..
nice big fat engine cover and opening ..you are looking down at everything right in front of you ..
super nice.   ( though they lost it about ease of replacing the water pump with engine in situ. )

  OK, after working on a 84 WBX engine for the last few days I don't wanna hear anymore snivelling about access to things like the alternator or general engine work compared to my 77 Westy India rubber man contortionist engine access. :-)
