Is that upper control arm nut the same type as nut used to hold the steering rack to frame?

I didn't see any warning in Bentley stating "always replace" on P 40.20 or 40.5

The nut that was there, had what looked like a 1 or 7 and a small logo opposite it. The replacement nut of same pitch/diameter, had a 10 stamped on it with the same logo. I cleaned up the mystery nut some more, smeared some grease on it and a 10 appeared. It appears to be a grade 10 nut. The washer on both sides of vehicle are the same (thick)

I took great care to inspect the *slight* thread damage then using the good nut, carefully worked it in/out with penetrating fluid, cleaning as I went. (overkill really). There was not metal debris and no abnormal play felt laterally or end to end when comparing to the long bolt from other side.

On the note of different thickness eccentric washers, it seems that only applies to Syncro's. Of which I doubt I"ll ever own. <grin>

My understanding is that the 2wd control arm can compress enough to take up any slack. The Syncro arm won't. (being more stout)

I'm ready to be corrected. <grin>
