Tryin' to get the world to wake up to this very obvious idea..
at least in my mind.
current electricty generation depends on ..
when it's not fossile/coal, or nuclear ..
the climate and weather.
snow must fall to fill resevoirs to run hydro power.
wind must blow to run wind generators,
the sun must shine to make juice with PV panels...and they can't work at
night even.
Waves must go, for the wave bobber systems that are being built now. Waves
come largely from wind. Wind is part of weather and climate.
all those depend on climate and weather.
and who knows what is going to happen to those systems in the future.
however..there is a massive, massive force..
litterally millions of horsepower ..
that moves silently, slowly, steadily, all over the world wherever there is
gravity ..the moon is still out there, and the oceans have a lot of water in
them. Wherever there is ocean water and bays.
and that is tidal generation of power.
the force of the water going through bay entrance of, say San Franciso Bay
..
that has a narrow deep ( 250 feet or so .......I have sailed SF Bay like
crazy ..the tides there are strong , fast, even sometimes , up to 6 knots )
....
entrance .
Vertical axis turbines spin the same direction whether it's a flood or
ebb tide.
They could turn slowly ...
and be mounted above the floor of the bay's entrance so all manner of sea
life can go under and above them ....and they would be silent down there..
and slow turning ..
and ...really ..if you measured the force of the twice daily tidal flow ..
it's some insane number, given the density of sea water, and the pull of the
earth and moon on it, and the sheer volume of moving water. A flood tide
flows for about 5 hours ...
then there is a slowing , then slack period ...the the ebb tide builds...and
it flows for about 5 hrs...24/7 day in and day out, 365/24 ..in and out, in
and out. And totally unstoppoble.
To not harness this force is just silly.
and ...
it does not depend on climate or weather !
and is non-polluting..........
and I think if done right ...not much environmental impact.
Why this is not abudantly clear to humans is beyond me.
