The camper foam is what I remember to be the common replacement when I did the job 6 or 7 years ago. But for whatever reason, I wasn't totally satisfied with that foam (not from actual use, just, uh, "bench testing" it). So I wondered if any alternatives had surfaced lately. Besides the camper foam, I had also searched McMaster-Carr and tried my luck ordering a few different foams that seemed like good candidates. But ultimately, I ended up using pipe insulation wrap from Home Depot (recommended by another list member back then) as it seemed to me to have the best qualities for this purpose. It worked fine, but in practice, I don't know if it is actually any better at sealing than the camper foam.Like a lot of things I do, I was probably WAY over thinking the whole thing :) James V 86 Syncro Westy |
