Subject: Manual Steering: How to Torque Inner Tie Rod End? (searched)
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Hi all.

I did this once before, but went by feel. The collar on the nut gets punched down to hold it in place, but even so, there is a torque value for the inner tie rod end to rack. Since it's steering, had to ask.

For this inner tie rod nut: http://tinyurl.com/3tl5wl3

How does one torque the big inner "nut" to rack? I imagine most go by feel.

I've considered welding a socket to "U" shaped plate steel so I can use a torque wrench. Or maybe a socket similar to an O2 socket would fit with arm pushed out of the way?

Neil.
