hi.. lol oh ..'some' vanagons have awesome accleration, like turbo surburu ones, or SVX -powered ones.

I'd love to talk more 'prius' with ya, but it's a vanagon forum, 'cept on fridaes, of course.

in general...about 'them new fangled modurn cars' ... I wouldn't even feel like I was really in control of one .. it feels more like 'the corporate and government conglomorate' controls what it does and how .. and I as owner/driver just get to participate a little.

on the other hand .. sure there are electronics in vanagons that we don't have direct control over quite.. but we can keep a spare ECC around, fiddle with wires we know can't hurt us much .. and .. compared to modern cars, speaking of feeling like one has actual 'control' ......Diesel Vanagons are so uttlerly purely mechanical it's just amazing ! ( stock 82 and 83 ones, or conventional pre-chamber type diesel ones ..not TDI's ) About all they have on them electrically is 12 volts to the fuel cut-off solenoid, alternator and starter, and running lights, and the electric clock ..

*all* the mechanical systems are purely mechanical on them .. amazing they are even viable on today's roads !

Can you imagine ..the most electrical thing about the transmission is the back up light switch .. I'm sure your prius has quite some chips involved with trans operation,. to say the least.
