OK, tackled HALF the job today. Thanks again to everyone who told me about the link to Ben McCafferty's article about CV joints at Van Cafe's web site. I don't think I will ever be able to share Bens enthusiasm for doing CV joints. What a miserable job! I actually found a pair of used CV joints from another bus I owned sometime in the past. I disassembled those and cleaned them up. I removed the right axle. A week or so ago when I heard the clunking my daughter was riding in the back and said it was coming from the right rear. The "grease" in those CV joints was dried and clumpy. The balls in the joint have turned a blueish-black, I assume from overheating. So anyway, I swapped those two for my two that I cleaned and repacked with grease and got it all back together. Took a test drive for a few miles and went to a parking lot and did circles in both directions and didn't hear any noises. However, if the right side looked this bad, I counting on the left side being nearly as bad. Next week or two I'll tackle the left side, but I'm not looking forward to it, thats for sure! Jeff
