Without looking at the book again I'd be highly suspicious of the high/low switch on the column, but blest if I can see how that would affect the clock, which is (supposed to be) tied directly into a 30 line passing through the headlight switch - for no better reason than that the switch had a spare 30 terminal on it, so they used it.
