did you inspect the distributor cap carefully ? if you get a reverse pulse, like backfire in the intake .. enough to pop off a hose.. that makes me think of something firing while an intake valve is open .. the only way I can think of that happening is the distributor is massively out of time.. or ignition is going to the wrong place at the wrong time in the distributor cap. sounds to me like someone needs to get 'hands and eyes on' about details and components and adjustments on your engine. Like testing and diagnosis.
