almost need a hand control for the gas pedal. I know the stiff ankle feeling .. from trying to drive with something like a downhill ski boot on. you could do this .. or I could, or someone could.. change the ratio on the bell crank on the gas pedal linkage under the floor of the van. increase the ratio, so it's a 'faster' gas pedal.. more on/off. effort will be higher .. and thus more need for regular lubrication of it .. but where you have now, say 3 inches of gas pedal travel, that could be reduced to say 2 inches. the throttle cable where it goes through the white plastic tube in the front half off all vanagons .. they need two things.. they all do that I have ever seen. one ..they need the cable pulled out ( aftward from the middle of the van ) and that tube blown out with compressed air, , then the cable feed back in adding a nice synthetic spray grease as you go. and two .. the cable tends to slide forward in the van, opening up a gap , exposing the inner cable, at about the middle of the van. a simple small hose clamp at the front of the white tube around the white tube and a bracket will fix it so the white tube doesn't slide forward out of position anymore. also .. the cover should be removed that covers the bottom of the gas pedal.. and that bell crank mechanism there well lubed..as well as the bottom of the gas pedal where it pivots on the floor. I cut a notch in the rear of the cover so I can do ALL throttle cable adjusting and fine tuning completely..'then' put the cover back on. VW has you adjust the barrel clamp there at the front with the cover sort of in the way, captured by the cable. Hate that. Want to do all adjusting and fine tuning first, then install protective covers. Scott www.turbovans.com
