The air mattress idea is not bad - I could throw a thermorest on for extra padding. The problem is that I have a weekender. It's got the wider bench, but the rear cushion is thinner because there is a small cabinet in the rear. This makes a bed of a really odd shape so while a blow up mattress won't fit too well, I can cut foam to any shape.

Honestly, I've been thinking of taking that small rear cabinet out, but there is so little storage in the van as it is (loosing all that space to the rear engine) that I'm going to live with it for awhile first and see how my home built boxes/cabinets work.
