Isn't the front cable NLA? IIRC it is. You'd think the heat would melt the nylon and allow the nut to come off. Maybe the PO crushed the nut with ViceGrips? If it breaks, or you cut it, could one weld a sleeve + thread back on to remainder? Just thinking out loud..... Neil.
