Something happend to me Saturday night that left me with a question begging for an answer. I suppose this may have already been a list question since the movie in question "Monsters" came out a while ago. Sat night me and two friends were the last three winding down from a nice little gathering. It was 2:00 AM and somehow we started watching Monsters. I think the only reason we stayed with it was to actually see one of the beasts they were talking about. Talk about a tease. My opinion of the movie....well it turned into slam....like Mystery Science Theatre. It is a bad movie (I think) - but so fun to have fun with. Why the hell did they get off the train! How was lead male so stupid as to lose passports when his life depended on it. And the boat engine....please........ What made the movie great however (and I hate to give away a piece of it) was when they were driving thru the Mountians and deep Jungles of Northern Mexico (somewhere along the Rio Grande) The monster, which is like a giant Octopus treated with a black light, attacks the convoy. He/she completly destroys every vehicle...munch munch. It then kills all the people/coyotes that had run out of the vehciles. Our American heroes meanwhile stayed put and cowered all night in their safe red vehicle. When they slide the door open in the morning and walked out I knew the sound instinctively - it was a VW Transporter!!! It made the torture of the movie all worth it!!!!! What sybolism!! What portend of the future!!! With the world ending - we chosen few (owners) can be safe! So my question. Did the monster just have good taste? Or do VW Buses just taste bad? I know my answer. |
