I finally change the air filter on my van, with the snorkel set up. It had remnant indicators of some moisture having hit the paper filter, by some of the folds being slightly warped, but there was NO signs of dirt/dust on the filter. Surprising to me because I've driven at least 3K miles of the 15K I've driven in that year, on dirty/dusty roads. I "suspect" the moisture came from driving at highway speeds, through heavy rains and the mist being concentrated into the intake shorkel.

As Alistair says, I've used large hose clamps, and a very robust piece of fuel filler rubber tubing (about 3" dia.) for the run up the D pillar. The entire system is either hard plastic or rubber and put together with clamps.
