OK these numbers are making more sense with David's correction.

3 3/8" or 85.725mm (from Karl's link) 3 1/2" or 88.900mm (David's revision)

1 3/4" or 44.450mm (from Karl's link) 2" or 50.800mm (David's revision)

I took some measurements off the European towhitch on my Syncro and that came out to 3 1/2" on the horizontal. Just a wild guess but looking like the SA hitch has the same hole spacing as the Euro hitch.
