Just an FYI for all....I stopped by a local shop to see about resurrecting my A/C for my old jetta and the owner told me they are phasing out 134a and will begin selling the alternative (134 something something, I can't remember) in 2012...

He stated the current 134a systems are not compatible with the new product, thus new fittings, vacuuming the system, new receiver/dryer, will need to happen in order to use the new stuff...

with that said, he noted the 134a will be around for awhile, but prices and availability will rival r-12...

this may be old news for some, but new to me...so I thought I would share...carry on...
