I found that check valve on a later model vanagon at the wreckers. it was installed in line on driver's side of radiator.

Its is not shown in the manuals/ekta (as far as I can see), but one is installed in the headlight washer system. I'm guessing that the one I found was owner installed.

I'm pretty sure other vehicles use them, worth a search.
