There is nothing special about the 65A alternator of the diesel Vanagon. You can fit an alternator from many VW cars of the 80s and early 90s and a lot of them will have the correct pulley already. I usually install the 90 amp version though this requires a different tensioning brace and a little wiring work. The newer 65A also may need this. I do this in part so the vehicle will take a more common replacement from then on.
