Scott, this is wrong.  A standard* NPT pipe thread connection *must*
have some kind of thread tape or pipe dope because the thread
geometry results in an unsealed path running around the tips of the
threads.  There will be plenty of metal-to-metal contact.


*there is a special modified pipe thread that does seal without
tape/dope but it's uncommon and must exist on both sides of the connection.
