Definitely the 16" Wheel & Tire combo from GoWesty.  The "look", the handling, the confidence to whack potholes and laugh...oh, did I mention the "look".  Yeah, man.  Get compliments all the time on the Vanagon...but I think it's the cool wheels that grab the attention first.  Was worth every cent.

Second best thing in my Non-Westy (guess it's called a hard top or tin top Vanagon) homemade-camper....was adding a 14" roof vent with screen....ventilation is paramount when sleeping inside, plus you get lots of good smells.  

Now that I think of it, I'd switch those two...stealth-camped last night and it was sure nice to get the cool salt-air ocean breezes (near the Hotel Del, and Rocky you know where that is, since you are a former San Diegan).
