For the thin arm, many (used to be all) hardware stores have a selection of small brass round and square tube, bar and sheet. To drill in brass without grabbing, stone a tiny flat on the lips of the drill, parallel with the long axis of the drill. Be very careful not to round off the point of the lip. I keep a box for brass drills so each time I need a new size the box grows by one drill. If you need a little bit of brass with a #54 hole in it to solder in, just say what diameter you need.
