I'd try to head for some place warm and sunny for a change, given how this wintery spring is.

I would leave the lower tin off for a while myself.. at least a day or two of driving around ...just in case the pipe arrangment leaks there or whatever.

I'll sure have to say those are good oil prssure switches. Most of them last the life of the van easily.

hey ..maybe the 83 Sunroof van that just showed up for sale today for $ 600 just needs a newer or better OP switch. ( though it is common that eventually ....1.9 waterboxers get low oil pressure at a hot idle ) .

I recently had to check into that for a ( DH code ) 1.9 wbxr engine. the actual pressure spec written on the switch itself was a range.. forget what it was in bar, but corresponded to something like 4 to 6 psi if I remember correctly . meaning that some oil pressure switches would come on a hot idle when another one might not.

I have one rebuildable core 1.9 wbxr engine for sale ..runs just great. Oil pressure light is on any time engine is below 1,500 rpm hot. 1.9's have very durable bottom ends. The one I'm running now, never gets below 19 psi at a hot idle. Most with many miles on them are much lower than that at hot idle rpm.

! - also ..your pipe for your oil pressure senders.. Chris doesn't worry about vibration and metal fatigue on that pipe much that I know of. I'm a little more cautious about that. If that pipe is allowed to vibrate .............eventually, might take many, many tens of thousands of miles.. but it would be possible for it to crack..particularly if it's allow to 'wip' at all. I have mine secured in a rubber hold-down clamp where it comes up on the forward side of the left cyl head. that plate there held on with two allen bolts.............. my clamp is sucured under one of those bolts. You want that pipe cushioned and prevented from vibrating as much as you can.

Yeah. It stays open even when on the bench. Failed switch. New one is now mounted on a bracket atop the engine in a little manifold alongside an oil pressure gauge sender. Won't need to open up the tin for THAT stupid little part again!

Weather's starting to look crummy. Take the van for one more time and check it again for leaks, then put the tin on and clamp those now-unused former ATF cooler hoses shut. Then ready to head out tomorrow for a camping trip! Woo-hoo!
