Hi all. In my search to come up with a less expensive DIY awning, thought maybe 2 gutter clamps, each modded to accept a U bolt, would allow a lengthwise 1" EMT for awning. Are these roof rack type gutter clamps specific to the Vanagon gutter shape? Tried 1/2" long piece, each end through and eye bolt to stock points (luggage rack rear hinge bolt) but it seems that there's too much flex though that was just me pulling at midpoint. Maybe an awning would put equal "pull" thus not flexing it? The idea would be to leave long piece in place, so awning could roll up on EMT. Nyloc nuts or equal used on U bolts of course.
