So you call the doctor and say: Doc, I am running a high fever. My thermometer says 98.6 and I am used to seeing 93.6 on the same thermometer I have been using for 10 years. What is wrong with me that my temp is so high? Doc will say, get an new thermometer and call me back. So yeah, your failure to do anything about your faulty reading gauge doesn't mean you can't use it to tell that you are running warmer or cooler than usual. But when a real problem comes up you can't provide meaningful data to those you turn to for help. Mark
