Hello curious chimp,

To avoid all of the difficulty and complication of the sloped driveway you can do what I've done, when applying some repairs/maintenance. First, load the van up with all of the needed parts and tools that you have on hand. Be sure you have paper towels, good hand soap, water etc. and maybe even a jumpsuit in the van and then drive somewhere where it's easy to do the job. I'm often out and about (on the road) when repairs/maintenance are needed and typically do these in the parking lot of a well supplied parts store. If you need additional parts, need to drop off oil, need to buy a bigger hammer etc. you are at the store already. This can make the repair process much faster and easier since driving around to get supplies during the process is eliminated.

A good led headlight can add some insurance if the work goes long. You can also keep you eye on what it would take to get the van driving again in case you want to finish at a later date, though few repairs will take too long if you are prepared in advance and have a good plan. Just pull in and find the cleanest bit of pavement that is a bit out of the way and go to it.
