Hi Jon.. well for sure you can't spend that kind of cashola without checking with the wife ! That could be a good deal.. depending' , of course. Many of them have that kind of miles. Pretty much the bottom end of that 1.9 is due for a full going though .. but then....while the 1.9 is very smooth running and lasts a long time.. they are a little low on plain ole grunt going up hills with a big load, etc.

so you want a different engine anyway is my point. I always reply to all if I want the whole list to see it .. and I think that does result in two postings....one shows to the poster, and one to the group. I don't even notice , I just delete the fluff/extra.

No spare insturment cluster from me. Whether through upgrading early vans to later ..or how easily the break ...I don't have any spare complete good ones. Just parts ones .

85 Weekender is a fine machine, well worth investing in. if the wife will go for the other one ..then you can have His and Hers.

if the 84 Westy is not rusted or crashed or badly dented. they always hold value.

Scott - Any chance you've got a spare instrument cluster lying around with a tach? Just read you've got a small collection of vans - thought I'd ask.

I'm new to this westy world - have had my '85 weekender (no swivel seats) for less than a year and am pretty sure I got the bug. I almost bought a second van yesterday. An '84 full camper with new tranny and clutch, but over 200k on the 1.9. The guy wanted $3700 which seemed like a pretty good deal, but I'm pretty sure my wife would file for a divorce if she got home from her work trip and found another van in the driveway... So I'll guess I'll make due with only 1 of these beauties... Got big plans for it - bigger wheels, suby power, swivel seats, solar - you know, the usual stuff...

One question off topic - when replying to this list, what is standard protocol - "reply-all" - seems like then the person who posted last get's two copies - one to them and one to the list (which also goes to them)

Thanks guys

Jon

interesting. I like stripper models. Don' see many of them. I once had a bare bones Renault 5 aka Le Car. . seat back angles didn't adjust, no vent windows. rubber mats, never had a radio in it. Went real good though ..named it Zippy.

now you're gonna ruin the purity of it with a tach ! ...lol.

how many vanagons ya got ? I'm at 13 ...two personal, 5 parts vans and 6 seller vans. what fun.

Not sure if this is true for all of them. This '85 Westy Weekender is the most stripped version I have ever seen. No swivels. Didn't even have a radio or antenna.

oh don't worry .. it'll work out. You might have to run a new wire is all.

Would you remind me please .. does a Weekender have a swiveling passenger's front seat ? I think not. it's a good thing to add though. thanx, Scott

Slightly deviating from the topic. My 85 Westy Weekender rear stretch donor had no tach. My 84 Vanagon GL front donor does have the previously mentioned black faced tach. Now I'm getting concerned that the tach wiring might be missing on the Weekender... one more thing to worry about.
