Thanks for that, Mark.

I'll first try my spare ECU, and if that doesn't provide any answers I'll measure the voltage on the Temp 2 sender.

My hunch: It ain't Temp 2. It will be deeper, darker, less easy to fix than a simple sender. I'm voting (seat of the pants, pure guess, based on nothing) a fouled plug. If the plugs were easier to pull -- or, more actually to put back in -- I'd pull them and look. Is there some kind of handy plug starter tool for these engines?
